The Picturesque Promenade des Anglais!

The Promenade des Anglais is a truly iconic destination along the Cote d’Azur. Whenever you look up photos of the South of France, there is a very good chance that you will see photos of this promenade. How it Started Translated the name means ‘Walk way of English’ which comes from when the English aristocrats would visit with their wives. They wanted a nice place to walk along the coast so the promenade was made and funded by the English. As you stroll along, you will see a hotel named “Westminster” which is a reminder of the influence the English once had here.  This 7km long promenade stretches from the airport of Nice all the way to Port Lympia and provides you with unobstructed views of the incredible blue sea. The promenade is not only a beautiful place to walk but you will also find many people biking, running, rollerblading and skateboarding along. Lined with beach bars and restaurants on one side and towering palm trees on the other; it is an absolute must-see when in Nice.  What To Do In the summer you will find packed beaches and a variety of beach clubs and restaurants to choose from. Although the beaches of Nice are stunning, they are rock so they aren’t the most comfortable to lay on, however, if you are looking for a day in the sun then consider renting a lounger in one of the beach bars. Cocktails and food make this a luxurious way to spend a day in Nice. If you walk down Place Massena towards the sea, you will reach the promenade. From here you can go left which will take you to Port Lympia past the Old Town and Colline du Chateau. If you go right towards the airport then you will pass the Massena Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts and the iconic Negresco Hotel. Both directions offer stunning views and a great way to enjoy the sunshine. Throughout the year there are various events that take place along the Promenade des Anglais. From sporting events like Iron Man to Carnival and Animal Walks; there is always something going on along the promenade. In Conclusion If you happen to be in Nice during the fall and winter months, you will experience a much different promenade. In October the beach bars close for the season which also means, the beach is much quieter. With Nice experiencing 300 days of sun on average a year, you can still enjoy a picnic in the sun; however, the water may be a bit too chilly for a swim.  There you have the iconic Promenade des Anglais! While you are in Nice, you must take sometime to stroll along and appreciate the stunning views of the Cote d’Azur.
